The kids have had so much fun playing in the snow. I'm hopeful that the rain hasn't turned the entire playground to ice, and with any luck, we'll get another snowstorm soon.
Bee-Keeping Beth brought in her bee-keeping equipment and her children's old bee-keeping suits for the kids to check out and wear. They learned all about how bees make honey as well as how it is collected. They even got to taste honey from Beth's own bees! Delicious!
Spring fun down at the River We had a fantastic morning playing down at the river. The kids waded ankle-deep in the water, built towers with rocks, built mud castles, and generally had fun in the water and mud! We also saw a grasshopper hatch!
VINS: Sinking and Floating Hannah, from VINS, visited again today. This time she brought bins that we filled with water and the kids experimented with various objects to see if the object sunk or floated. Each pair of students was given two plastic lids that they were tasked with sinking. The students went from bin to bin, loaded their boats with different objects, and counted how many of each object (foam blocks, rocks, corks, washers...) caused their boat to sink. They found out that the large blue glass jewels only took two jewels to sink their boat whereas it took many more of the small multicolored jewels to do the same. No matter how many foam blocks or corks they put on their boats, the boats continued to float.
