Fun in the Water

Image
Water Fun! As long as the weather allows, we will be walking to the river twice a week to play in the water, dig in the sand, stack rocks, observe nature, throw things into the water and more.  Through play and investigation your children will learn about the world around them.  These trips will help them naturally work on both gross and fine motor skills, imaginative play, problems solving, language, cooperative play and so much more.  And best of all... IT'LL BE FUN!   Who doesn't like getting wet? Watching rocks splash in the water is always fun! Which rocks make the biggest splashes? Nothing better then getting dirty while creating a masterpiece. Team Work!  How high can we bounce without going into the water?   Rocks, rocks, rocks!  Need I say more?    Rocks sink and sticks float... that's pretty cool!    More digging!   Smile for the camera (even if those masks cover the smile). A day at the river always makes preschool fun!

Southworth Park

Southworth Park We had a ball walking up to Southworth Park and playing in the woods last week. The cooperative play that we saw happen was incredible.  My favorite story was when one of our younger students (C) was having a hard time climbing over a huge rotting log and one of our older boys (G) saw his younger classmate struggle.  G. suggested walking around the log.  When C. didn't want to walk around, G. talked him through how to climb over the log.  When that didn't work, G. climbed down and demonstrated step by step how to do it.  Still struggling, G. gave C. a little boost and up and over he went.  The patience and determination of both boys was incredible to watch.  I was so happy that I wasn't at the log when C. began to struggle.  I might have started with the boost up and then the cooperation would have never happened.  G. wouldn't have had the opportunity to be a leader and a teacher, and C wouldn't have felt the pride of accomplishment.  It is so impor

First Week Success!

A Great First Week!      We have had a fantastic first week of school.  Thank you to all of you parents for working with us and helping your children adapt to these strange new times.  The entire staff has been shocked at how well the preschoolers keep on their masks without fussing with them or complaining.  Quite frankly, I think the preschoolers have been dealing with their masks better than most adults I know (including me).  After the first day scramble during drop off, it seems like both pick up and drop off are going better than we expected as well.  Children constantly surprise me with how flexible and adaptable they are with change and adjusting to new and different situations.  Thank you to all you parents for making this transition smooth for your children.  The smoother we get it down the better things will go when the rest of the school returns in October.     What a fun week we've had getting to know each other.  The returning preschoolers came back as if they have
