Mooooo!

A successful field trip to the farm! From my observations, I'd say everyone had a great time.  A few were a bit hesitant at the beginning, but there were smiles all around by the end.  Wow!  That is an impressive milking operation that they have going at the Newmont Farm.  All those cows!  I loved seeing how all those cows are milked and learning about the process.  I think its great for the kids to see with their own eye where their milk comes from.   I know a large group of kids were impressed with all the tractors driving on the hills of cow feed.  I'm not sure the kids grasped what was going on, but they did enjoy seeing the tractors drive up and down the hill and the huge dump trucks dumping their loads. We have two new staff members! Please help me welcome Cindy Bacon.  She will be working in the afternoons on Mondays through Thursdays so that I can fulfill my duties as the director of the WES in the afternoons, and she will also be taking over the after school care all four days.  It will be wonderful to have a consistent after school provider. Welcome Cindy! We are also happy to announce that Meghan Carroll has joined us and will be filling in for Caitlin until Caitlin return's in February. Welcome Meghan!

Kale Salad - New tastes

We had a special guest join us today!  Juni's mom came in today and helped us harvest kale leaves from our garden and then prepare a kale salad.  Kale is a pretty mature taste for many and some of the kids weren't as enamored by the taste as others, but they all agreed that they enjoyed the process of picking the kale, ripping it up, and turning it into a salad.  It was a perfect way to spend a cold, gray morning and learn a bit about the food we eat.  Thanks Makenna!
