Southworth Park

Image
Oops!  I just found this unpublished Blog with a collection of Southworth Park pictures from the fall.  It's amazing to see how much the kids have grown in only a few months. Our days at Southworth Park and, now that it's getting colder, our on site outdoor classroom are filled with story times, activities, fires, gross motor play (climbing, walking to the park, jumping, dragging logs...), working together, imaginative play, problem solving and so much more.  The play that happens when we're outside with only nature and each other to entertain us is magical. Getting the wiggles out. Spontaneous silliness!

Numbers and Counting

Image
Numbers Similar to letters, we talk about and work on numbers throughout the entire day.  Examples of some of the many number activities that we do during the day are: We count how many kids are at circle, how many are at home and compare the numbers.  Many of our morning messages include numbers and counting.  A frequent activity during snack and lunch is counting snack items (4 crackers, 5 apple slices...). We talk about our ages, whose older and younger, how many 4 year olds we have, are there more 3, 4, or 5 year olds...  We count to 20 or 10 twice with the kids when they washing their hands.  The kids enjoy reading books about numbers and counting things in books.  There are an endless number of activities we do every day to help the kids learn to count and identify numbers in fun ways. Learning numbers through puzzles. Collecting sticks and leaves from nature. Counting to 5 or 10.    Matching numbers and pictures.
