Gross Motor Fun!

Acquiring gross motor skills are a huge part of life for preschoolers.  They are constantly honing their walking, running, climbing, swinging, balancing, throwing, kicking... skills.  Much of our day at preschool is set up for children to work on these skills.  In designing out outdoor spaces, we have thought through the skills that preschoolers need to work on.  The swings, the ladder up and slide down, the climbers, and even the caterpillar tunnel are in our playground so that children have the opportunity to work on these skills while playing.  We bring out balls to kick and throw with and tricycles to ride around as well.

In addition to our playground, we use the gym as a space to work on gross motor skills.  Every Friday the PE teacher, Mrs. Claflin, runs a PE class for the preschoolers.  They have had a great time during the months of September and October honing their balancing, crawling, and jumping skills.
