VINS: Sinking and Floating

 VINS: Sinking and Floating

Hannah, from VINS, visited again today. This time she brought bins that we filled with water and the kids experimented with various objects to see if the object sunk or floated. Each pair of students was given two plastic lids that they were tasked with sinking. The students went from bin to bin, loaded their boats with different objects, and counted how many of each object (foam blocks, rocks, corks, washers...) caused their boat to sink. They found out that the large blue glass jewels only took two jewels to sink their boat whereas it took many more of the small multicolored jewels to do the same.  No matter how many foam blocks or corks they put on their boats, the boats continued to float.
